CAROLINE WATERS CAPTIVATES HER SF AUDIENCE

THE NORWEGIAN SEAMEN'S CHURCH, SAN FRANCISCO
Caroline Waters Captivates her San Francisco Audience

"I have no sound system. The sound system is me." With these words, Caroline Waters began her hour-and-a-half concert at the Norwegian Seamen's Church in San Francisco. On Sunday, November 7th, she captivated her audience with a musical and personal journey.

Caroline Waters doesn't need a sound system. She has a warm, mature voice, that can handle both tender and powerful expressions. Parts of the repertoire she brought to San Francisco were linked to artists who have been her sources of inspiration: for example her voice teacher Anne Brown, the first Bess in Porgy and Bess. Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen were also included, but first and foremost, she shared a lot of her own material.

In between the songs, swithcing between accompanying herself on the grand piano and the guitarder, we got to hear parts of her powerful personal story. She told us about the accident, when she lost her memory and therefore her whole identity. She also told us about her dearest friend, who disappeared while hitchhiking in the Nevada Desert, and remains missing to this day.

The way Caroline Waters communicated with her words and music greatly impacted those who had gathered in the living room at Hyde Street this afternoon. Themes such as identity, love and longing touches most of us, and the soundscapes span from the naked and vulnerable to the humorous and burlesque.

We also got to hear samples from a musical she is currently writing. The musical has the working titel, "Come Hell or High Waters"fra en musikal hun skriver på. Musikalen har arbeidstittelen "Come Hell or High Waters". If you go to her home page you can follow her progress, with the musical and with her novel, "Finding Venus". The novel is ready to go and only waiting for the right publishing company. Caroline's home page is  www.carolinewaters.com. This is also where you can order CDs.

Caroline Waters received a signedcopy of the the book "Kirken ved den gylne port" by Dagfinn Kvale -about the history of the Norwegian Seamen's Church in San Franciscos. Håkon Sødal thanked her for the concert by saying that he hoped she would remember us by this book and come back soon.
