COMPASSION
It's been a while since Caroline Asplin was two years old and a child star in her father's "Putti Plutti Pott". Her first CD offers adult pop music, clearly influenced by South American rhythms. Similar to what Silje Nergaard has done before, and equally successful.
Music such as this can easily turn into slick samba bore, but Caroline Asplin manages to be personal enough to keep our attention most of the time.
The groove, supported by super bassist Abe Laboriel, is also plenty steady for the loose rhythms. Here and there, Caroline Asplin attempts to make her voice climb just as high as Minnie Ripperton used to do, without succeeding quite as well. She could benefit from holding back more here and there, but over all this is a surprisingly well done solo debut.
